New bus services have been launched to help connect towns and villages to retail developments and tourist attractions.

North Northamptonshire Council said it will fund the transport from its own budget, government money, and contributions from developers.

Among the new routes will be buses from Corby and Oundle to the Rushden Lakes retail and leisure development.

Matt Binley, from the authority, said the new services were "a very welcome addition".

Some of the new routes will also link Corby and the Chester House heritage site and Stanwick Lakes nature reserve.

There will also be an extension of some services, including the X4 between Corby and Peterborough.

Mr Binley, the Conservative council's executive member for highways, travel and assets, said the money was to "kick-start" the services.

"I hope that people will start using these new routes, as that is essential if they are to continue, and hopefully for many of the services to eventually become fully commercially viable," he added.
