Christmas events at Amerton Farm had to be cancelled after strong winds destroyed its marquee

A customer has helped to raise over £400 for a farm that suffered damage during the high winds of Storm Darragh.

Amerton Farm near Stafford was due to host Breakfast with Santa events over the weekend, however strong gusts damaged the marquee where they were due to take place.

One of the farm's directors, Amy Flint, apologised to customers on social media and said they were doing "everything we can" while prioritising the safety of staff and animals.

One customer, Nicky Fox from Biddulph, decided to start a crowdfunding page after the video "pulled on her heart strings".

Mrs Fox, who regularly visits the farm with her two children, said she wanted to support the farm because small, independent businesses like Amerton rely on custom over the festive period.

"I saw the video and I just wanted to do something to help a little bit, as nobody needs to be panicking this close to Christmas, and Christmas is probably one of their biggest events."

"Just going there for a couple of hours at the weekend makes the children's day and the Christmas displays make even more special," she added.

The farm said they were "so shocked and overwhelmed" by Mrs Fox's generosity and thanked everyone who had donated.

They added that the team had worked really hard and events will run as normal this weekend.

Mrs Fox hopes to raise another £350 before handing the money over.
