Seven people including two boys aged 15 and 16 have been arrested after an injured man was found lying in a street.

The 21-year-old victim was taken to hospital after he was discovered on the corner of Hanover Street and Wood Street in Liverpool city centre earlier.

His injuries were not described as life threatening, Merseyside Police said.

The suspects, all teenagers apart from one 38-year-old man, were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and other offences, the force added.

A cordon was in place and a forensic investigator could be seen taking photographs of an area on Wood Street, outside the Empire Pub.

The force said the attack was reported to them by paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service at 12:45 GMT.

The arrests were made in the early hours.

The teenage boys were from Manchester, Salford and Sheffield while the older man was from Bootle, police said.
