Plans to build 143 homes near Tewkesbury have been given the go-ahead as part of of a wider housebuilding project.

Barratt Homes has been granted permission by Tewkesbury Borough Council to develop 16.5 acres of land north of Milnes Covert in Fiddington.

The application is the second phase of a wider scheme to build up to 460 homes in the area which include a primary school, community changing facility, and playing fields.

The scheme includes 48 affordable homes.

The proposal includes play areas, and a balancing pond which will be designed to prevent floods by collecting surface water and slowly releasing it into the drainage system.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the plan is to split the affordable housing into social rented properties and shared ownership homes.

The social rented units include six one-bed homes, nine two-beds, 15 three-beds and three four-beds.

Council officers recommended that the planning application should be approved as they considered it to be in line with planning policies and is acceptable in terms of access, layout, scale, appearance and landscaping.

The planning committee voted to grant permission at a meeting on 20 August.
