Part of a major road in Essex will be closed over the weekend as part of ongoing resurfacing work.

The A12 will be shut London-bound between the exit and entry slip roads at Junction 25 for Marks Tey, near Colchester.

It will be closed from 06:00 BST on Saturday, until 20:00 BST on Sunday. The northbound carriageway will be open as usual.

A diversion will be in place.

There will also be additional traffic lights at the Prince of Wales roundabout and Stane Retail Park.

The closure will enable the resurfacing of "hard-to-reach" areas of the road, National Highways said.

The authority said more overnight closures were planned so workers can finish the resurfacing.

National Highways told the BBC last week the scheme would be completed in September after nearly two years.
