Six men charged with raping girls in late 1990s

Six men have been charged with the rapes of girls in Kirklees more than 25 years ago.

The offences are reported to have taken place between 1994 and 1998, West Yorkshire Police said.

Five of the men, who are from Dewsbury, Batley and Shipley, and a sixth man from London are due to appear before Kirklees Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Police said officers were continuing to conduct enquiries in partnership with the Crown Prosecution Service as part of the operation into non-recent child sex offences in Kirklees.

The people charged are:

  • Najib Reham, 53, from Dewsbury, charged with three counts of rape

  • Shafiq Siddique, 56, from Dewsbury, charged with one count of rape

  • Rahis Karim Tahir, 56, from Dewsbury, who is charged with one count of rape

  • Umar Farooq, 55, from Batley, who is charged with four counts of rape and false imprisonment

  • Kadir Hussain Iddaula, 58, from Shipley, who is charged with one count of rape, aiding and abetting rape, and two counts of incident assault

  • Mushtaq Sher, 49 from London, who is charged with three counts of rape and three counts of indecent assault.
