Teen motorbike passenger seriously hurt in crash

A 16-year-old pillion passenger on a motorbike has been seriously injured in a crash.

Cleveland Police said bike was in a collision with a car on California Road in Eston, Middlesbrough, at about 23:00 BST on Saturday.

The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

The motorbike rider fled the scene leaving the teenager on the ground, police said. The force is appealing for them to come forward.

The crash involved a white Hyundai and a Honda CBR bike.

The injured youth was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment for significant injuries and was said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Officers have appealed for information as well as any CCTV or dashcam footage.
