Details of plans to build new 170 homes near an Oxfordshire town, which were granted permission after appeal, have been submitted.

Vistry Homes' proposals for a site east of Warwick Road in Banbury were refused by Cherwell District Council, before being overturned by the government Planning Inspectorate in 2024.

The developers have now lodged a reserved matters application with the council, which provides further details of how the development will look.

Plans include a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom houses, with 40% of the houses being affordable.

More than half of the development site would remain as green open space - including woodland, wildflower meadows and informal sport and play areas.

The new estate will also include a pre-existing pubic right of way, as well as 345 car parking spaces.

Construction on the site cannot start until the reserved matters application has been approved by the council.

The council initially refused planning permission for the site in 2023, after 489 people objected to the scheme.

Many objectors raised concerns about the development encroaching into the nearby village of Hanwell, and that the homes would negatively affect the rural character of the area.

But the Planning Inspectorate allowed the application to go ahead, following an appeal, in July 2024.
