Three Ukrainian youngsters will be taking part in a week of traditional music in Ross-shire from the 1 April.

Fèis Rois is welcoming the three, aged between eight and 10, from the Gergel Language School in Kyiv.

The Dingwall-based arts organisation is also holding three free community ceilidhs in Dingwall, Tain and Ullapool, alongside its annual music week of tuition and workshops for young people.

Fèis Rois gives people of all ages access to traditional arts and Gaelic language.

This Easter young people have the opportunity to try traditional instruments such guitar, fiddle and tin flute, and also to learn Gaelic song.

More advanced players will get to work on playing together and song-writing.

Chief executive of Fèis Rois, Fiona Dalgetty, said the link with Angela Gergel's language school in Kyev goes back to 2009.

"We are delighted that Angela is able to bring three young people over to the Fèis for the first time since 2019," she said.

“I spoke to Angela this week and things are obviously incredibly difficult again at the moment. They are travelling by train from Kyiv to Warsaw and coming from Warsaw to Inverness and they will arrive on Tuesday.

“It’s a big adventure and hopefully we can give them a really fun and happy experience,” she added.
