Police arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of assault

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an "alarming" assault on a 12-year-old boy who has been left with numerous injuries.

The incident took place on Stockport Road in Timperley at 18:30 GMT on Friday, 21 November, according to Greater Manchester Police.

In a statement, external, the force said the boy was approached by a car when walking with two friends, before a man with a metal object got out and chased the group.

The victim attempted to run away but was attacked with the metal item leaving him with injuries to his back, hip and left leg in an incident that Det Insp Karl Perry said "has alarmed the local community".

Det Insp Perry went on to state "we want to reassure the public that we believe there is no wider threat to the community" and called on anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage of it to contact the police.
