An event aiming to give people a look behind the scenes of Jersey Coastguard's operations has been hailed a success.

About 70 people visited Maritime House for the open day on Sunday, including the family of someone who was rescued after falling ill at sea, organisers said.

Watch officer Luke de la Haye said the event was an opportunity to showcase the work of the service.

He said: "I even met the family of someone who had fallen ill on board a vessel that I was involved with returning to shore, which was amazing."

Positive feedback

Mr de la Haye added: "It was great to see the Maritime Operations Centre so full on Sunday, and whenever I had a chance to look out of the window, the pontoons looked busy.

"There was a range of people interested in finding out more about what we do. All the feedback we received was positive."

The Ports of Jersey said the open day aimed to give people a better understanding of the work and services carried out by the team.
