A 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being assaulted by a group of young people in west Belfast.

Police were called to the incident in Falls Park on Saturday at about 21:20 BST.

Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Inspector Róisín Brown said the boy had been reported to be unconscious and the incident was ongoing when officers arrived.

She said that as officers administered first aid to the boy, "other altercations between the large group of young people broke out", causing more police to be deployed to the scene.

The PSNI said it was aware of "ongoing issues at Falls Park" and was committed to making the area a safe space for young people and residents.

It said anti-social behaviour was "unacceptable" and appealed to parents and guardians to know where their children are.

Police are also appealing for any witnesses or people with information to contact them.
