Part of the M6 in Lancashire has been closed, after a HGV overturned and crashed into the central reservation, spilling fuel across the carriageway.

The motorway has been shut northbound, between junction 34, at Lancaster, and junction 35, at Carnforth, since the incident shortly before 02:30 BST.

One lane of the southbound carriageway between junction 34 and 35 was also shut, National Highways said.

Police said the northbound carriageway would be closed for some time while resurfacing and repair work took place.

Separately, the northbound slip road at junction 31, at Brockholes, was also closed due to a van fire, Lancashire Police has said.

The force said it was likely to be closed for some time and advised drivers to take alternative routes.

There are also overnight closures affecting junction 36 and junction 39 northbound, between due to planned roadworks between 20:00 and 05:00.
