Man dies after car crashes into tree

A man has died after a car crashed into a tree in south Staffordshire on Tuesday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the car was on fire when crews attended the scene between the A5 in Gailey and junction 2 of the M54 at about 20:29 BST.

The driver, who was in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The A449 was closed in both directions for several hours after the incident.

Staffordshire Police has asked witnesses or anyone with CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage of the area to get in touch.
