Four boathouses were destroyed in Storm Desmond in 2015

A new boathouse and jetty could be built on Windermere to replace those destroyed in a storm 10 years ago.

A proposal has been lodged with the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) to build a two-storey boathouse and jetty at Bellman Landing on the eastern shore of the lake.

The original building was one of four destroyed by Storm Desmond in 2015.

Planning documents state the new structure would use a steel frame and concrete walls to make it "more robust".

The building originally formed part of a "terrace of boathouses", but the damage to the site had "left a gap", according to the planning application's heritage statement seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

If approved, the new boathouse would be constructed in a similar style as the rest of the terrace.

Cumbria was battered by winds of up to 81mph (130km/h) during Storm Desmond, with major flooding also hitting the area.
