More affordable homes planned in latest town expansion

The latest phase of housing development to the south of Shrewsbury would include 40% of affordable homes, according to plans.
The proposal for 226 homes, external next to Shrewsbury Town's ground on Oteley Road would include 90 classed as affordable, twice the normal 20% requirement.
Outline plans have been deposited for the development, which is part of Shrewsbury's southern SUE (sustainable urban extension).
Developers said the houses would be set around three green open spaces "sized and shaped to facilitate recreational use".
Although detailed plans for the development are still to be drawn up, a design statement said the greens would provide "doorstep amenity space" and also improve drainage.
Different stages of the SUE have been under development since a masterplan was issued in 2012, foreseeing a total of 900 homes between the A5 and Oteley Road bypasses.
Much of the area has already been built - the latest proposal covers farmland between the end of Thrower Road and the football stadium.
There are also large-scale developments to the west of the town.
