Council expands on-demand bus service

Surrey County Council (SCC) has expanded its on-demand bus service to help people move around "more freely at a time that suits".
The council said that rather than being restricted by traditional timetables, the Surrey Connect buses could be used by anyone when needed.
The buses, which are accessible minibuses, also operate out of the area to enable residents to access other key locations including town centres, supermarkets and train stations.
Matt Furniss, cabinet member for highways, transport and economic growth, said: "Surrey Connect has helped thousands of residents to get from A to B, without the need for a car, and proved very popular with our residents."
He added: "I am pleased that we have expanded our on-demand shared bus service to more areas across Surrey."
The expansion of bus provision follows the success of services introduced last year in the Mole Valley, Tandridge, Farnham, Cranleigh, West Guildford and Longcross areas, said the council.
Surrey Connect is funded by SCC to help improve access to sustainable travel.
Its buses have transported over 84,000 passengers around the county.
Services run Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 19:00 BST and on Saturdays from 08:00 to 18:00.
Journeys can be booked with 30 minutes' notice or up to seven days in advance either on the Surrey Connect website or on the app.
Fares are charged based on how many miles are travelled starting from £2 for adults.
