Two women are set to take part in a charity skydive on Saturday to raise money for charity in support of a community they call home.

Joan Small, aged 85, a resident of the Royal Alfred Seafarers' Society's Belvedere House care home in Banstead, and Liz Lord, aged 75, a tenant in its sheltered housing complex, are taking on the challenge in support of the Surrey-based charity.

The society said the event was part of a wider fundraising drive to bring more joy to residents, funding initiatives such as live music performances, smart devices and wellbeing programmes for those living with dementia.

Ms Lord said: I'm excited to take on this challenge, which holds great meaning for me."

The society said it also hosted a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, including the annual summer barbecue and staff challenges.

It added that these efforts ran alongside the continuous backing of other maritime charities and the wider maritime community.

Ms Lord added: "It's a privilege to be able to support the Royal Alfred Seafarers' Society.

"As a tenant, it's my home, and I've experienced first hand their exceptional support, especially for those living with dementia."

David Dominy, CEO of the society, said: "We are always inspired by the determination of our residents and tenants here at The Royal Alfred.

"Joan and Liz's skydiving challenge is an excellent example of their adventurous nature and their zest for life."
