People have been warned not to fall for a scam advert offering cruise tours from a container port.

Suffolk County Council's trading standards department said a post on Facebook - now removed - was offering cruises from Felixstowe.

Issuing a warning, the council wrote on its own Facebook account, external: "Many residents of Suffolk and our bordering counties will be well aware that Felixstowe is a container port and not a passenger port."

It offered advice for spotting scams and added: "The post appears to have been removed, but reports suggest that the link took you to a website that asked for personal and financial information."

The advert offered all-inclusive cruise tour packages for 2025 on what appeared to be a beautiful cruise liner - the likes of which would not usually grace a container port.

It claimed "seniors will appreciate the smooth start, easy-going atmosphere and scenic comfort of this coastal cruise route".

The council said it was important for people to check carefully when responding to such adverts and that they should "read online reviews from reputable sources to check websites are genuine".

It also advised only using a "secure payment method recommended by reputable online retailers" and that using a credit card for purchases over £100 would give added protection.
