A housing association is to build 600 affordable homes in the Highlands over the next five years.

Albyn Housing Society said it was committed to helping to tackle the region's housing shortage, with a mixture of social rent, mid-market rent and shared equity.

Work is due to begin on the first 125 homes in Ullapool, Tain, Alness, Invergordon, Nethy Bridge and Conon Bridge. The development is backed by a £10m loan from Bank of Scotland.

In 2024, Highland Council said the area needed an extra 24,000 houses over 10 years to address a long-standing shortage.
