Man charged over police pursuit crash death

A man is due to appear at St Albans Crown Court on 2 September in connection with the death of a moped rider

A man has been charged after a moped rider was killed in a crash during a police pursuit.
He is accused of causing death by dangerous driving and driving with no insurance following the collision in the early hours of Friday in Ware, Hertfordshire.
The moped rider, a man in his 30s, died as a result of the collision, after officers in a marked vehicle had been pursuing a Vauxhall Astra.
The accused, who is 21 and of no fixed abode, has been remanded in custody and will next appear at St Albans Crown Court on 2 September.

Hertfordshire Police's actions prior to the crash are to be investigated by a watchdog
The crash happened on London Road, near the junction with Amwell End, at 00:35 BST, and involved a blue Honda WW moped and a white Vauxhall Astra.
Hertfordshire Police said the victim's family was being supported by specialist family liaison officers.
It added the incident had been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct "as a matter of course", for an independent investigation that would look at police actions before the crash.
