Hundreds of people followed the performance of a passion play through the streets of Hull on Good Friday.

Forty actors depicted the events of the last week of Jesus's life, crucifixion and resurrection during a promenade performance.

The two hour spectacle started at Trinity Square before moving to Queen Victoria Square for the trial of Jesus, then travelled back to the Square for the crucifixion.

The performance was part of Hull Minster's celebrations for their 600 year anniversary.

Most of the performers were volunteers.

Becky Howes, the parish administrator, played the part of Judas, the disciple who betrayed Jesus to the authorities.

She said it was exciting to be part of the play: "We come out of our church and try and tell our story to everybody that's out there."

Becky wears a striped costume with a head covering. She is with the audience walking through the streets by clearance, last chance to buy shop.

"We haven't found any records of any passion players being put on in Hull," Ms Howes said.

"There were some in Withersea and Hedon, but not actually in the city centre like this."

Martin Williams played the part of a Roman centurion.

He said: "You get into the role, the character of it.

"And I think from the audience's reaction, it seemed to do the trick."
