An investigation has been launched after several children attending the same primary school fell ill with an infection.
Public Health Wales said it was working with Swansea Bay University Health Board and Neath Port Talbot Council to investigate a number of cases of acute respiratory infections associated with Blaenhonddan Primary School in Bryncoch, Neath.
"Public Health Wales is supporting the school and partners to reduce the spread of illness and to provide public health advice to parents and staff," it said in a statement.
"We ask parents and guardians to look out for symptoms such as coughing, sore throat, fever or difficulty breathing," James Adamson from Public Health Wales said.
"We are aware of several cases of acute respiratory infections linked to the school and are working closely with Swansea Bay University Health Board, Neath Port Talbot Council and the school to manage the situation," Mr Adamson said.
"The flu season has now started in Wales, and acute respiratory infections are common in children, particularly at this time of year," he added.
He added having the flu vaccination every year was the best way for people to protect themselves and their children.
"The number of absences from this school reflects the background levels of respiratory infection across Wales," he said.
