A teenager who stabbed a girl in the chest and another boy many times has been sentenced to 13 years.

The attacker, who cannot be named for legal reasons, injured the pair at a bus stop outside a shop in Kirkby on 30 April.

Witnesses rushed to help the victims, who were taken to hospital for treatment, with one man at the time describing the situation as "terrible" as more than a dozen emergency service vehicles responded.

The 15-year-old attacker, who was 14 at the time, was arrested shortly afterwards at his home and has been convicted of attempted murder, assault and possession of an offensive weapon at Liverpool Crown Court.

Det Insp Graeme Osborne, from Merseyside Police, said: "He and his family are paying a heavy price for his decision to carry and use a knife that day, and I hope he and others recognise the widespread harm people carrying knives can bring."

Knife crime in Merseyside has dropped by 8% to 1,179 offences, external in the year up to June 2025, according to latest data.

Insp Osborne said the force was working with schools on prevention as well as conducting weapon searches in the region.

"Ultimately, our aim is to prevent people from coming to harm and from the hopes and promise of our young people to be risked because of one poor decision."
