Charges for Boston's garden waste collection service will increase in the new year

Residents in a Lincolnshire town will have to pay more for their garden waste to be collected in the new year.

Boston Borough Council is hiking the annual fee for collections from £45 to £50.

The price of an additional waste bin will also rise from £20 per household to £30.

The local authority said the move was needed to maintain the service.

Callum Butler, the council's portfolio holder for environmental services, said: "Unfortunately, the cost of providing the brown bin garden waste collection service has risen substantially over the last 18 months, and is currently not covering its costs.

"I fully appreciate that having to pay more for a service at a time when it feels everything is going up is not ideal, but it is a rise that is necessary to keep this service going."

Garden waste collections will begin in the week beginning 19 February next year, the council said, following a break for the winter.
