A temporary road closure and other measures are planned to allow essential improvement work in Salisbury next week.

The section of North Street that joins with Fisherton Street will remain closed for drainage works beginning on Monday 15 July until Friday 19 July.

To ease the impact on traffic, North Street will temporarily become two-way, the parking bay outside 26 North Street will be suspended and vehicles exiting St Clements Mews will be directed to turn left only.

The work is part of the Fisherton Gateway scheme aimed to enhance the road network and public spaces along Fisherton Street.

'Vibrant'

The £3.2m improvements came from the government's Future High Streets Funds and work included widening pavements, adding new street lighting and enhanced landscaping.

Councillor Nick Holder, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for Highways, Street Scene and Flooding said: “Creating vibrant and well-connected communities is a key priority for us.

"We are pleased to see these improvements taking shape and more areas opening up for public use.

“We appreciate the closure of this junction may cause some disruption for local residents and businesses and apologise for any inconvenience.

"Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum wherever possible, and all local amenities in this area will remain open and accessible during the construction period.”

Further overnight road closures are planned from 20:00 to 06:00 BST between 5 and 7 August to install kerbs, and then again between 12-23 August for resurfacing work.
