Gardaí (Irish police) have seized suspected heroin worth in excess of €300,000 (£256,000) in Dublin.

The drugs were found when uniformed officers searched an apartment in the Smithfield area of the city on Saturday morning.

A Garda spokesman said a quantity of suspected cocaine and "items related to the street supply of illegal drugs" were also found during the operation.

A man in his 30s was arrested and is being held at a Dublin Garda station.

The drugs will be tested by Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).
