Auction of sea-inspired art raises funds for RNLI

An exhibition of artwork inspired by the RNLI and the sea is to be auctioned off in Jersey to raise funds for the charity.
The 10 pieces of original art have been created and donated to RNLI Jersey by emerging and well-known artists from the island.
They have been produced as part of the RNLI's 200th anniversary celebrations and they are currently on display in St Helier.
RNLI crew member Mike Edward, who organised the art auction, said: "We are immensely honoured that they have given up their valuable time and demonstrated their amazing talent to support the RNLI in this historic year."
The online auction runs until midnight on Saturday 15 June, which is also the night of the RNLI 200 Gala Ball.
All of the artwork, produced by artists including Theo Jenner, Louise Ramsay and Tim Le Breuilly, is currently on display in an empty shop on Queen Street.
“This exhibit and auction is the culmination of months of behind-the-scenes discussions with the landlords, the town centre manager and, of course, the artists," said Mike Edward.
He said RNLI Jersey wanted to thank everyone who had helped bring this to fruition.
"We hope that islanders will be inspired by these unique and beautiful pieces of art," added Mr Edward.
Artist, Theo Jenner told BBC Radio Jersey he was honoured to be involved and he was glad to see the "incredible" lifesaving work of the RNLI being recognised.
Deputy Kirsten Morel, the minister for sustainable economic development, said the celebration of the RNLI's bicentenary and featuring the work of local artists was "a great way of using this space to bring life to otherwise empty shop fronts".
He congratulated all those involved in bringing the project together, and the landlords at Columbia Group who recognised the importance of "meanwhile use" for the site.
"The use of vacant shops and windows to enhance the vibrancy of our high street is to be celebrated," he added.
The RNLI has had a presence in Jersey since 1884, operating two lifeboat stations at St Helier and St Catherine’s.
RNLI Jersey also provides professional lifeguards to the four western beaches in Jersey, St Brelade’s, St Ouens (Le Braye and Watersplash), Plemont and Grève de Lecq.
