A family fun day is returning to Wolverhampton to celebrate the work of the armed forces, organisers have confirmed.

The festivities at West Park to mark Armed Forces Day run from noon to 16:00 BST on Saturday 29 June.

Free activities include face painting and cycling stunt displays, while performers on the main stage feature 1940s vintage trio The Bluebird Belles.

Linda Leach, Wolverhampton's mayor, said she hoped people from across the city would come to show their support.

“Wolverhampton has a special relationship with our armed forces and this fantastic, free and fun event for all the family is a wonderful way to mark this," she said.

Ms Leach added the event celebrated "all that the armed forces do to defend our nation at home and abroad".

Serving personnel, cadets and veterans from the city's Freedom Units will march in a parade on the day.

People will also have the opportunity to meet and chat with local armed forces personnel.

An armed forces flag will be raised on Monday by the mayor as part of the occasion.

The ceremony is due to take place at the Cenotaph on St Peter’s Square from 10:30 BST.
