The second of a series of weekend closures of part of the A27 has caused delays for drivers.
The eastbound section between the Manor Road roundabout in Lancing and the Shoreham flyover is closed until 06:00 BST on Monday.
The traffic data firm Inrix has reported congestion to Findon and on the coast road, as drivers use a diversion along the A24 and A238.
The work involves finishing drainage, installing ducting and laying the final road surface at the New Monks Farm roundabout.
A section of the A27 between Forest Road and the Grove Lodge roundabout had to be shut on Saturday morning, after a crash involving a single car.
The road was closed while a fuel spillage was cleared.
The roadworks, which began on 12 April, are being carried out over four weekends.
The next closures will be from 21:00 BST on 10 May until 06:00 BST on 13 May, then from 21:00 BST on 7 June until 06:00 BST on 10 June.
