Major A-roads closed due to flooding as river overflows
- Published
Several roads have been closed after heavy flooding caused a river to burst its banks.
The high tide on the Severn flooded the A417 at Maisemore in Gloucestershire and closed the Over Causeway in both directions between the White Hart Inn and A40.
Elsewhere in the region, Langport Road, Haw Bridge, Wainlode Lane, and Sandhurst Road have also been shut in both directions due to flooding.
Gloucestershire County Council said it will continue to monitor river levels and has urged people not to drive through the floodwater.
Meanwhile, the A40 in Gloucestershire is closed westbound, between the A4136 near Huntley and the B4222 near Lea, due to an overturned vehicle.
According to National Highways, traffic is being diverted away from the area and motorists are advised to plan ahead if travelling in the area.
Flooding warning
The Environment Agency has issued an 'act now' flood warning for the River Severn at Chaceley and Haw Bridge following heavy rainfall.
An online statement said flooding was expected to affect properties and roads in and around Tirley, Chaceley and Haw Bridge, and could last several days.
At 08:15 GMT on Friday, the river's water level gauge at Hawbridge recorded a height of 5.11m (17ft).
Property flooding is possible when the water surface level reaches 5m (16ft) .
