Drink-driver jailed after woman badly hurt in crash

A 52-year-old drink-driver who caused a head-on crash which left a 23-year-woman with "lasting injuries" has begun a jail sentence.
Kestutis Korzeniauskas, of Heathcote Close, March, Cambridgeshire, has been given a nine-month prison term after admitting a number of driving offences.
Police said his black Vauxhall Insignia struck a black Vauxhall Corsa heading in the opposite direction near Wilburton, Cambridgeshire, at 0800 BST on 5 June 2023.
A detective said Korzeniauskas should "never have been behind the wheel".
Korzeniauskas was jailed, and banned from driving for three years and four months, by a judge at Peterborough Crown Court on 11 October.
A court official said he was given a nine-month term after admitting causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.
He had also admitted drink-driving and driving without a licence - the official said no separate penalty was imposed for those offences.
'Bravery'
Police said the Corsa driver had been serious hurt and left with "lasting injuries".
“If this case doesn’t highlight the dangers of drink-driving, I don’t know what will. Korzeniauskas should never have been behind the wheel of a car that morning," added Det Con James McAlister.
“The victim was just minding her own business when he collided with her, and I would like to commend her bravery and wish her all the best in her recovery.”
Police said Korzeniauskas had also been convicted of drink-driving and driving with no licence in 2017.
