Pathways School will open a second school in Hereford for children with special educational needs and disabilities

An independent school in Hereford will open a second site in the city after plans were given the go-ahead.

Pathway Schools will convert a vacant commercial building on Harrow Road into a school for 20 pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Approving the planning application, Herefordshire Council said the new site would help to address the shortfall of SEND places in the county.

Pathway Schools has up to 25 children, aged eight to 18, at its current site in the Rotherwas area of the city, which opened last year.

By increasing its provision locally, the school said there would be less of a need for children to be driven long distances for suitable education.

The new site would have about 15 full-time members of staff when it opened, Pathway Schools added.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
