Tram 736 - HMS Blackpool "sails" along Blackpool's Promenade

One of Blackpool's heritage trams will now continue to operate until the end of November, it has been announced.

Two trams - including one decorated in the style of a ship - are running along the town's seafront during the Lightpool Festival, which ends on 1 November and features an array of light installations.

The popular vintage trams were suspended in December last year due to safety fears and issues with depot space.

Blackpool Transport's managing director Jane Cole said the newly reintroduced trams were "proving [such] a huge hit" with visitors they were going to run until the end of November.

'Nostalgic trip'

One of several trams created specifically to carry passengers on tours through the famous Blackpool Illuminations each year, HMS Blackpool was designed to resemble a sea-going frigate.

Complete with strings of lights and even a ship's horn, the novelty vehicle has become a firm fan favourite over the years.

So visitors can "enjoy a nostalgic trip on board" Ms Cole said it will now run three trips a night on Fridays and Saturdays, except on 29 November.

The tram will run from the Pleasure Beach to Little Bispham, but as the dark nights draw in, timings have been brought forward by half an hour, and will start at 17:30 GMT.
