A second key route into a town is set to have major roadworks for more than a month.

The A508 which runs between Market Harborough and Northampton will have temporary traffic lights at Brixworth Country Park from 14 October.

The A428, running from Rugby to Northampton, currently has roadworks between Duston on the edge of Northampton and the village of Harlestone.

West Northamptonshire Council said it "appreciates the patience" of road users during the work.

The A428, Harlestone Road, works involve four-way traffic lights, which have caused long delays, but will have two-way traffic lights from Monday.

The work is being carried out by Persimmon Homes to connect gas, water and electric to a new housing development and is due to last until December.

Temporary lights on the A508 are due to be in place until the end of November, with full closures in place on 14, 15, 28 and 30 November.

West Northamptonshire Council said it was for traffic signal upgrades, resurfacing works, and installing a pedestrian crossing.

Phil Larratt, the cabinet member for highways at the Conservative-led council, said: "We understand that these works may cause delays to residents and road users leading up to winter, and we appreciate their patience whilst work is carried out to support housing development and improve road infrastructure and safety."
