Pet crematorium plan refused despite no objections
- Published
Proposals for a pet crematorium near Newport have been turned down despite nobody objecting to the scheme.
It would have seen the change of use of a building at Moreton Brook Cottage in Moreton to offer an "in-demand" service to bereaved pet owners.
The applicants stated that the crematorium would also lead to employment opportunities for other people in the longer term.
However, planning officers at Telford and Wrekin Council turned it down over concerns about the impact of potential noise and odour pollution on the site's neighbours.
A statement on behalf of the applicants said a chapel of rest and reception building, as well as the planting of native species trees, were part of the proposal.
The crematorium would allow bereaved pet owners to mourn their pets in a private and peaceful space, it stated.
The idea had the support of Chetwynd Aston & Woodcote Parish Council, and Telford and Wrekin Council’s ecology, drainage, and highways departments, among others.
However, planners said the scheme failed to show it "would not have a detrimental impact upon the amenity of neighbouring residential properties by way of noise and odour pollution."
