A section of the A27 in East Sussex has been shut following a fatal crash.

Sussex Police said at about 03:30 BST on Saturday emergency services were called to the A27, near the Esso Garage between Falmer and Lewes, to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on the westbound carriageway.

The male pedestrian was confirmed dead and an investigation was launched to establish the circumstances of the incident, police added.

The section of the westbound carriageway remains shut, although the eastbound road has reopened.

Sussex Police is asking anyone with information to contact them.

South East Coast Ambulance Service has been contacted for more information.
