A weekend closure of the A30 in Cornwall is due to cause "slow traffic" until the early hours of Monday, National Highways has warned.

Cornwall's main trunk road was due to close last weekend but the plan was changed because of the Royal Cornwall Show.

Ongoing diversions have been in place to allow work on the dualling project between Chiverton and Carland to continue.

The weekend closure between Chiverton and Summercourt is due to last until 06:00 BST on Monday, highways bosses said.

The £330m project to dual the A30 between Chiverton Cross and Carland Cross, external was due to be completed in March.

Bad weather and construction challenges have pushed back the completion date to "before the school summer holidays".

Thousands of people will be heading to Falmouth for the sea shanty festival.

Town manager Richard Gates said: "We are advising people to make journeys earlier and to use the various forms of public transport."

As well as "slow traffic" from the A390 Blackwater to the Summercourt Central/Newquay turn-off, National Highways said there was also likely to be congestion to the A3075 between Goonhavern and Newquay.

It said overnight closures are planned between Chiverton and Summercourt from Monday to Thursday, with another full weekend closure from Friday to the following Monday.
