A man who died in a crash has been identified by police, while another has been arrested.

Police were called to South Hetton Road in Hetton-le-Hole at about 20:10 BST on 19 April, where it was reported a motorbike had lost control and crashed into a pedestrian island.

The rider of the silver Yamaha motorbike, who has now been identified as Graeme Berry, 37, from Sunderland, was pronounced dead a short time later.

Northumbria Police said the rider of a second vehicle, a man in his 40s, had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has since been released on police bail.

Sgt John Sanderson asked anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch.

“As ever, our thoughts remain with Graeme’s family who have had to come to terms with the tragic loss of their loved one," he added.
