Tanesha Melbourne-Blake may not have been the intended target, the jury has heard

A teenage girl who was killed in a gang shooting asked her friend to call her mother when she was fatally wounded, a court has heard.

Tanesha Melbourne-Blake, 17, may not have been the intended target when she was injured in a drive-by shooting in the Northumberland Park area of Tottenham, north London, on 2 April 2018, the Old Bailey has been told.

In a statement read out in court, Jace Stockley said Tanesha had shouted "I've been shot" after gunshots were fired towards the group.

Michael Clarke, 36, denies Tanesha's murder, as well as possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Prosecutor Philip McGhee read out a statement in court written by Ms Stockley who, along with Tanesha, were among a group of friends standing on Chalgrove Road.

"I was about four paces behind Tanesha," Ms Stockley's statement said.

"I heard a car coming down the road, but I didn't see it. I then heard Tanesha shout: 'Jace, duck!', and I heard gunshots."

She said her friend then turned to face her and "shouted: 'Jace, I've been shot'".

Tanesha fell into her arms as Ms Stockley ran over to her, the statement continued.

"She then said, 'Call my mum, call my mum'. She was breathing [heavily], she went very pale."

'Everyone liked Tanesha'

In her statement, Ms Stockley estimated the shooting had happened at around 21:30 BST.

"From the first shot to the last, it must have only been a couple of seconds," she said.

"Everyone liked Tanesha - no one would hurt her.

"She has not done anything that would cause anyone to shoot her."

Mr Clarke lived in Wood Green and had been nearby on the evening of the shooting, the court has previously heard.

The jury was also told there had been "longstanding enmity" and territorial rivalry between criminal gangs, and the shooting had been linked to Mr Clarke's friend who had been beaten up.

The trial continues.
