Landmark toilets in Hull city centre have opened for the first time this year, following repairs.

The 99-year-old toilets in Queen Victoria Square had been closed since the end of last year after water leaked into the electrical system.

An "incredibly wet winter" delayed the repair work, Hull City Council said.

Councillor Jack Haines, the council's portfolio holder for communities, said it had been essential to ensure the toilets were safe before reopening them.

The facilities have also undergone a deep clean.

The toilets, along with a statue of Queen Victoria, which stands above them, are a Grade II-listed structure.

They were completed in 1925 and retain original earthenware stalls, cisterns and cubicles.
