Six people have been arrested after a teenager was stabbed on a busy seafront promenade in broad daylight.
The incident involving a group of seven boys and young men happened on Eastbourne Promenade at about 16:05 GMT on Tuesday.
A 17-year-old boy was assaulted and sustained an injury consistent with a stabbing to his right hand, Sussex Police said.
Six people, aged between 14 and 20, have been arrested, including one suspect on suspicion of wounding with intent.
All have been bailed with strict conditions, pending further investigation.
The injured teen, who was with two friends at the time of the assault, was taken to Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead for treatment and has since been discharged.
The assault happened in the lower area of the promenade, between the pier and the bandstand, between 16:05 and 16:20.
"Officers have been carrying out inquiries and increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance, but are keen to speak to witnesses who may have seen what happened in a busy area during daylight," a police spokesperson said.
Anyone who witnessed the assault or who has information is urged to contact police.
