Pair released after fatal limousine crash

Two drivers who were arrested after a limousine and a car collided at a crossroads, killing a woman and seriously injuring a child, have been released from police custody.

Northamptonshire Police said the crash, involving a black Mercedes 220E and a black Citroen DS3, occurred at the junction of Wellingborough Road and Broughton Road near Pytchley at about 22:15 BST on Monday.

The victim, aged in her 40s, died at the scene and a nine-year-old girl, who was taken to hospital, were both passengers in the Mercedes.

Officers said a 53-year-old man from Sandy, Bedfordshire, and a 22-year-old man from Wellingborough, were released pending further inquiries.

The 53-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was released on police bail.

The 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care/consideration while unfit through drugs, causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Another adult and three children who were travelling in the Mercedes limousine and an adult and child passenger in the Citroen, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information about the collision to contact them on 101.
