Two people have been arrested after a van crashed into a wall in West Bridgford.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers saw a Transit van, which was using suspected cloned number plates, being driven near the Nottingham Knight Island at about 01:40 BST on Tuesday.

After officers began following the van, it "failed to stop and was driven at high speeds before colliding with a boundary wall" in Valley Road, a force statement said.

Both occupants - a 16-year-old boy and 21-year-old man - fled the scene but were arrested nearby on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for an officer, theft, driving without a licence or insurance and possession of cannabis.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Insp Tim Cuthbert, neighbourhood policing inspector for Rushcliffe, said: "The standard of driving demonstrated during this incident was appalling and put anyone out on the roads at risk.

"The crash also caused damage to one property and will have been concerning to those in neighbouring homes."
