A DJ and music producer who was shocked to discover he had heart disease has thanked the hospital staff who cared for him following a triple heart bypass.

Bhupinder Saggu, who is known as Bups Saggu, was treated at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust's Heart and Lung Centre in June.

Mr Saggu had severe chest pain in 2024, and was later diagnosed with triple vessel heart disease after a CT scan, which led to the surgery.

After being given "a new lease of life" he said he wanted to raise awareness in the South Asian community about heart disease.

'Scar pals'

The DJ described his hospital care as "exceptional" and said he would not have had the willpower to recover as quickly without it.

"Following the surgery, I have a new lease of life. I don't get out of breath going up hills anymore and I can do more than I ever thought," he said.

Because he had signs of heart disease he had not been aware of, Mr Saggu wants to stop it happening to others, and is planning a documentary, as well as going out with health teams to check people's blood pressure.

The DJ said he was also now "scar pals" with his daughter, who was born with a heart condition and used to be paranoid about the signs of her surgery.

"I feel now I was supposed to go through what I did for more reasons than my own health," Mr Saggu said.

The most common symptoms of coronary heart disease, external are chest pain (angina) and breathlessness.
