A man and a teenager have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 14-year-old boy was stabbed in the head in the street.

The boy was seriously hurt in the attack on Lodge Lane in Toxteth, Liverpool, where he was walking near some shops at about 18:30 BST on Sunday, Merseyside Police said.

A 34-year-old man from Allerton and a 15-year-old boy from Toxteth are being questioned in police custody.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to "get in touch as a matter of urgency".

The victim was taken to hospital with a serious head injury “consistent with a bladed weapon being used”, the force said.

He remains in a serious but stable condition.

The area, near the junction with Coltart Street, has been cordoned off and officers remain at the scene.

Det Insp Chris Carlin said: "We are continuing to investigate and to establish the circumstances of what has taken place.

"It was a busy time of evening so I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Lodge Lane and seen or heard anything take place to come forward and speak to us."

He urged anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage tos see if it captured the incident or the lead up, adding: "no matter how small, as any information may help with the investigation".
