A man died in a crash that closed part of the A1 for several hours, police confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway near Wyboston, Bedfordshire at about 07:50 BST on Saturday, and a stretch of road to St Neots in Cambridgeshire was shut until about 15:00.

Bedfordshire Police said a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision, which involved a white lorry, a blue Ford car and a pedestrian.

The force appealed for witnesses and drivers with dashcam footage to come forward.

Sgt Matthew O'Neill from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire road policing unit said: "This was an incredibly tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the loved ones of the man who sadly lost his life."
