The big stories in the West this week

At the start of the week people shared pictures of their favourite shapes at Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and Bristol Live reported Oggy The Dragon, external was a firm favourite.

Meanwhile Somerset Live , externalshared a heartfelt tribute to Patrick Hawkins, who founded the County Classics Motor Museum in Taunton.

A poster depicting a satirical image of the vice president of the United States JD Vance was also spotted on the streets this week. Gloucestershire Live's report, external said it was unofficially installed on a billboard in Cheltenham while he was on holiday in the Cotswolds.

And there was excitement on the Burnham-on-Sea.com page, external as aircraft flew over Somerset to mark VJ Day on Friday.

Elsewhere Salisbury Cathedral has announced, external that it will once again be running a special pet service, where "all creatures great and small" are welcomed to visit the historic building to be blessed.
