Two people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed, police said.

Officers were called to Birchington Avenue in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, shortly after 00:00 BST on Sunday to reports of a disturbance.

Cleveland Police said a man was found with stab wounds and was taken to James Cook Hospital, where he was in a critical but stable condition.

A 20-year-old woman from Darlington and a 21-year-old man from Redcar have been arrested and are in custody.
