New summer bus service for city park launches

A new weekend bus service aimed at improving a city park’s connectivity and accessibility was launched on Saturday.
Nene Park Trust has launched Your Community Greenbus in Peterborough, after it received funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund.
The bus company Vectare will run the service, which will depart every 90 minutes from Herald Way in Gunthorpe and end in Ferry Meadows' main car park, with stops in Paston, New England and Millfield along the way.
The trust said it has had “positive” interactions with the community regarding the bus service and it was “looking forward” to welcoming people on board.
The shuttle has the capacity to take 30 people on board and will run from 09:00 BST and 18:00 on Saturdays and Sundays until 1 September. Tickets cost £2 per person, with under-10s travelling for free.
There is no current bus route that takes travellers to the park, which has made it hard for people who relied on public transport to access the area.
Nene Park Trust said the aim of the project was to make the park more accessible for those living on the other side of Peterborough and to offer a sustainable travel option for all.
It added that the shuttle would be closely evaluated throughout the summer, to see if a permanent bus service travelling to the park would be a viable option.
